The Fire Department has been teaching a 36 hour Firefighter Course for the members of the department that do not have a current fire certification. This past Monday some of the hands on skills required for the course were conducted at the station.
Some of the hands-on skills were ladders and hose streams.

The 15th Annual Regional Pet-Adopt-A-Thon sponsored by the Medina County Auditors Office was held at the National Guard Armory in Medina Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
This year there were over 50 animal rescue organizations along with pet -related vendors!
And of course Smokey and Patches the Fire Dog!

The Erhart/York Township, Valley City, and Litchfield Fire Departments, Medina County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with guest speakers presented the annual pre-prom program to the Buckeye High School sophomore, junior and senior classes.
The program is delivered prior to the Junior and Senior Prom. The program delivers the advice of GO HAVE AN AWESOME TIME at prom but be SMART ALL THE TIME NOT JUST DURING PROM.
The program has traditionally focused on driving under the influence of Alcohol or drugs but has been expanded to driving and texting, reckless driving.
The Pre-Prom committee would like to THANK all the participates in the program to make it a success!

The EYFD was dispatched to a single car crash on Sunday morning. Upon arrival the driver car drove off the road into a tree. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries. The infant passenger was uninjured.
Both patients were transported to Medina Hospital.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and no further information is available at this time.

The EYFD was dispatched to Stiegler Road for a working storage barn (40x60) fire. The was work being done on a pickup truck inside the barn. According to the reports a loud bang was heard from the pickup truck which caught the storage barn on fire.
Upon arrival the EYFD attempted to contain the fire, however due to windy conditions the fire spread rapidly. A second alarm was struck and the fire was extinguished with the help of mutual aid.
The barn is estimated at a complete loss.
The mutual aid departments that responded were:
Litchfield Fire and Rescue - 1 Squad
Valley City Fire Department - 1 Engine
City of Medina - 1 Engine
Medina Township -1 Engine

The Erhart/York Township Fire Prevention Team made an appearance with Smokey and Patches this past Sunday at the Litchfield Fire Department Pancake Breakfast.
As always Smokey and Patches were a huge hit with the kids and provided Fire Prevention eduction!

The Erhart Firefighters Assoc Relay for Life Team is hosting their "Spring Craft Show" on March 31, 2012 from 9 am to 3 pm.
The show will be held at the Erhart/York Township Fire Dept at 6609 Norwalk Road Medina, Ohio
All Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society

The EYFD was dispatched to a single car rollover on Spieth Road over between Wolff and Abbeyville Roads.
Upon arrival the driver was out of the vehicle and complaining of no injuries. The driver was transported to Medina Hospital by LST for evaluation..
The State Ohio Patrol is investigating the crash. No further information is available at this time.

The EYFD was called to Carter Lumber for a gas spill of between 100 and 150 gallons. The spill was caused by a mechanical malfunction.
The Carter Lumber employees initially contained the spill. Upon arrival the EYFD worked to contain the spill. The spill was contained to the Carter Lumber and small area on the Lester Rail Trail.
The Medina County Hazmat, Emergency Management Agency and the Ohio EPA responded to the scene.
Cleanup will be handled by a private contractor
